This group gives the consultant the opportunity to work in most of the top Fortune 500 companies in the world. Services include (but not limited to) Operational Readiness, Business Continuance, Disaster Recovery, Storage and IT services Delivery. The major focus of the Automation and Orchestration Consultant role centers on working with VMware technologies that assist with the automation, orchestration and management of virtual infrastructure and Cloud. The team delivers solutions that help customers to fully benefit from the possibilities of a virtual infrastructure by integrating open source and third party products and automating processes. To achieve this, the following VMware products are mainly but not solely used:

• vCenter Orchestrator

• vCloud Automation Center

• vCenter Operations Management Suite

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain confidence of colleagues and customers

  • Independently conduct small to medium engagements with customers

  • Work as part of a project team on larger projects

  • Maintain current knowledge of the entire VMware product line

  • Analyze customer requirements to produce technical solutions based on VMware technologies

  • Provide level of effort based on requirements and assumptions

  • Create customer-facing solution documentation and specifications

  • Write code and script solutions in PowerShell, JavaScript, C#, Perl, Python, Java, etc.

  • Break down high level requirements in low level ones, as well as design and implementation of Pre-packaged solutions.

  • Help document best practices in developing and deploying VMware solutions, and feed them into our knowledge base for reuse by the team, customers and partners

  • Research new technologies and provide technical guidance to management.

  • Perform methodical and structured QAT of code

  • Help deploy and configure products and custom solutions on customer site as needed

  • Help amend and refine custom solutions on-site in agile manner as needed

Preferred:

  • Experience as a professional services consultant or software engineer, preferably with an Internet, Cloud or “Big 5” consulting organization

  • Experience with modern software development methodologies, with emphasis on software and hardware architecture, infrastructure design and development

  • Strong application software development for one or more of the Linux, Unix (e.g. Solaris) and Windows operating systems. Systems programming or OS internal level skills would be an advantage

  • Strong ability to synthesize customer business requirements and convert into technology solution based on VMware Management product stack

  • Strong programming skills in one or more of the following OOP languages: Java, C#, C++, .NET / Visual Studio

  • Strong scripting skills in any of the following: JavaScript, Python, Perl, Powershell, Bash, etc.

  • Willingness to use different programming languages to address specific product needs

  • Familiarity with systems management concepts, processes and standards (e.g. SNMP); capacity/performance management and tuning; and storage and network management

  • Understanding of modern IT production datacenter and Internet (ISP/ASP) hosting operations

  • A good practical understanding of Web-based application development, including cgi-bin, and Apache or IIS server platforms

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

  • German, French, Spanish, Italian or another European language would be considered a plus

  • Ability to travel throughout EMEA up to 25% if needed would be considered a plus

  • Science degree (BSc, MSc) degree or equivalent technical training
