Cloud Service Platform – Manager R&D
Become a key contributor to the Cloud Services Platform at VMware.
The Cloud Services Platform (CSP) R&D group charter is to implement cloud runtime for VMware & ISVs to deliver Software-as-a-Service & Service Providers to Customize, Extend and Monetize Cloud Services.

As part of the CSP R&D group, you will work within a small and elite team, a startup like group within VMware. As a member of the team you will master the entire application life-cycle including application architecture and application deployment architecture, development, testing (dev owns quality), continuous deployment and continuous delivery up until to production.
You will be responsible for leading a top-talents engineer to build and deliver high-quality services that delight VMware's usersManage the successful execution of projects as part of the release cycle
Develop and track detailed schedules, dependencies and critical paths
Effectively collaborate with all project stakeholders: Product Management, Development, Quality Engineering, Technical Publications
Clearly communicate with upper management any risk areas; come up with risk mitigation plans
Constantly look for improvements in software development and testing processes
Encourage and drive initiatives which promote innovation and technical excellence
You are responsible for hiring, retention, and career development of the software developers in your team
You will coach and motivate your team to ensure high productivity and teamwork, and help each individual achieve his potential
You will interface with other internal teams to prioritize features and functionality based on the resources available, business priorities and needs
Conduct periodic on call duties as needed on a regular scheme basis
Bachelor’s or Master degree (preferred) in Computer Science or equivalent and 8+ years of related experience in software industry
3+ years of experience managing and growing a high-performing software engineering team
Excellent people management skills - communication, teamwork, and leadership
Ability to coach and motivate team members for their ongoing career growth
Proven success leading projects in fast-paced, growing-organization environment
Strong cross-functional organizational skills
Experience in managing distributed, remote teams; Have a track record and the ability to influence geographically distributed teams Deep (hands-on) knowledge in software development process is a must - excellent understanding of software development and project management fundamentals is required
Should have done substantial amount of software development, testing and design work Experience with at least one of the following programming languages is required: Java, Python, Go, or Ruby
Experience managing the development and testing of large-scale distributed systems A passion for delivering well-written, high-quality, well-architected and well-documented code. Willingness and ability to participate in technical designs and code reviews
Good business sense and strong analytical skills are required
Fluent verbal and written English
