VMware Senior Business Analyst – Data Sciences in Sofia, Bulgaria
This position is responsible for supporting analytics that drive business optimizations across Marketing, Sales and the customer’s end-to-end buyer journey.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on technical experience in statistics, predictive modeling and other data sciences, as well as extensive experience in developing data-sets for data science projects. The position requires great communication and advanced analytic problem solving skills.
This position reports into the Director of Analytics & Data Sciences, Palo Alto, California, and is based out of Sofia, Bulgaria.
Support Marketing, Digital and Sales on improving effectiveness and revenue contribution through analytic optimizations.
Independently develop and assist others in creating supervised and unsupervised models across a multitude of projects, such as propensity to buy, to respond and attrition using R, Python or other language/Machine learning libraries. Develop and maintain reports on the effectiveness of models.
Develop deep knowledge of VMware’s data assets, extract and prepare data for modeling from Hadoop and enterprise databases, using SQL and other tools, deriving and sharing insights from visualizations, correlations and other statistics with the greater analytics team.
Direct development of improved code portfolios across SQL, R or Python for increased process efficiency.
Actively develop business understanding and analytic subject matter expertise in select Sales and Marketing domains. Work to enhance one’s data science skills and an understanding of how to effectively apply these to business problems. Collaborate with colleagues, learning from and leveraging the best skills and knowledge in the organization to help the team deliver the most effective analytic solutions.
Experience: 4-7 years of hands-on experience (or graduate degree in relevant field) using advanced analytics techniques to solve marketing and sales business problems, such as campaign response modeling, cross-sell propensity and next-likely purchase/tactic models. Working knowledge of methods such as logistic regression, tree-based methods, clustering etc. The ideal candidate has worked with business stakeholders on identifying analytic needs, and develop analytic solutions that are actionable (from a business perspective) & deployable (from a systems perspective).
Education & Related Background: graduate degree in data sciences, advanced analytics, statistics or related fields is preferred or equivalent on-the-job experience (experience in high-tech enterprise business-to-business industry is ideal, as is prior experience from a reputed analytics firm doing similar work).
Technical: the ideal candidate has end-to-end modeling experience; with hands-on experience translating raw data from relational databases and Hadoop into modeling data sets (using Excel, SQL, SAS or other coding tools). Hands-on experience with one or more of the primary data science tool-sets: such as R, SAS, SPSS, Python etc. Some experience with Tableau, QlikView and exposure to marketing/sales automation environments is a plus, such as Salesforce.com, Eloqua, etc. Experience putting models into production and use through regular scoring and database updates.
Project Management & Communication: Good business & technical communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to explain and present analytics concepts to non-technical audiences. Ability to establish & nurture relationships with stakeholders.
Personal: Strong project management and organizational skills. Ability to effectively prioritize time, manage expectations and deliverables. A self-starter, who proactively looks for new and better ways of doing things. Shows drive, passion and a sense of ownership.
